A little more than 12 hours after Plantís Gabby Rodriguez and Blair Martin won a grueling doubles match to seal the Class 4A state team title, the duo returned Friday to win one more gold medal.
This time, Rodriguez and Martin combined to take the overall doubles title 7-5, 7-6 (6) against Douglas High, which advanced to Fridayís final after winning the individual qualifiers bracket.
It was a sweet ending to a physically and mentally demanding three days at the state tournament at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, where most of the Panthers each played about 15 hours of hard-fought matches.
Plantís state team title on Thursday was its third in a row and fourth in the past five years.
Looking ahead, itís possible the Panthers could continue their state title streak because all but Martin, the teamís only senior, return next season.
Rodriguez and the Panthersí No. 2 player, Erica Oosterhout, are sophomores.
