Roy Injured PITTSBURGH (AP) - Colorado Avalanche goaltender Patrick Roy, who leads the NHL with six shutouts, left in the first period of Thursday night's game in Pittsburgh with an injured right hand.
Roy was attempting to cover the puck when teammate Uwe Krupp accidentally skated across the goaltender's exposed glove. Roy still managed to glove the puck, but the Penguins' Joe Dziedzic also appeared to clip him with his skate before play was stopped.
Roy tried to stay in the game after being treated during a five-minute delay, but skated off the ice wth 13:54 gone in the period after making a save on the Penguins' next trip down the ice.
Roy, 23-8-6 this season for the defending Stanley Cup champions, was replaced by backup Craig Billington, who is 5-2-2.
