Pittsburgh at Montreal (1:30 p.m. EST). The Penguins will try to bounce back after their 14-game unbeaten streak was snapped by the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche on Thursday. Montreal is playing back-to-back afternoon games this weekend.

- Derek King and Zigmund Palffy, Islanders. King had his sixth career hat trick and Palffy scored twice as New York defeated Hartford 5-2.
- Arturs Irbe, Stars, had 36 saves in Dallas' 5-2 victory over Washington.
- Corey Millen, Flames, scored two goals as Calgary settled for a 2-2 tie with Ottawa.
^SWEEP
The road teams in Friday's NHL games went 5-0-1. The Calgary Flames were 30 seconds away from completing a road sweep, but Ottawa's Daniel Alfredsson scored a late goal to salvage the tie.
^STEPPING DOWN
Mike Milbury resigned as coach of the Islanders on Friday but will remain as general manager. His coaching job was handed over to assistant Rick Bowness, who won his first game with New York on Friday night, 5-2 over Hartford. Milbury was hired as coach in July 1995 and became GM five months later.
^SWAPS
Two-time Vezina Trophy winner Ed Belfour was traded by the Chicago Blackhawks to the San Jose Sharks early today for goalie Chris Terreri, defenseman Michal Sykora, forward Ulf Dahlen and a 1998 conditional second-round draft choice.
^SNAPPED
Toronto's 2-1 overtime win over Chicago on Friday night snapped the Maple Leafs' five-game road losing streak. Last month, Toronto snapped a nine-game road losing streak in Chicago.
^SWINGS
The Stars recorded their 32nd point on the road and league-leading 15th road victory with a 5-2 victory over Washington on Friday night. Dallas managed only 29 points on the road last season.
^SIDELINED
Colorado Avalanche goalie Patrick Roy will be sidelined four to seven days because of a sprained right thumb he sustained in Thursday's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Roy left the game after a scramble in front of the net.
^STATS
The Toronto Maple Leafs remain the only untied team in the NHL after 48 games.
