Roy Injury

DENVER (AP) - Colorado Avalanche goalie Patrick Roy is expected to be sidelined four to seven days because of a sprained right thumb he sustained in Thursday night's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Roy left the game, won by the Avalanche 4-3 in overtime, after a scramble in front of the net during the first period. He appeared to have smothered the puck but was kicked by Pittsburgh's Joe Dziedzic.

Coach Marc Crawford said Roy, who leads the NHL with six shutouts this season, couldn't hold his stick. He was replaced by Craig Billington.

In Roy's absence, the Avalanche have recalled goalie Jean-Francois Labbe from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League. Labbe, who has a 23-16-5 record this season, leads the AHL in wins, goals-against average (2.48) and shutouts (four).
