Mighty Ducks-Coyotes PHOENIX (AP) - Cliff Ronning and Mike Gartner each had two goals and Keith Tkachuk added his 30th of the season as the Phoenix Coyotes beat the Anaheim Mighty Ducks 6-3 Thursday night.
Craig Janney also scored and Oleg Tverdovsky added three assists for the Coyotes, who won for only the second time in their last eight games (2-6-0). It also was only No. 2 at home since Dec. 27.
Paul Kariya recorded his second career hat trick for the Mighty Ducks, who have lost all three meetings against Phoenix this season.
Ronning's goal 17 seconds into the second period gave Phoenix a 3-1 lead. Kariya answered at 3:39 of the second period when he slid a rebound shot under Phoenix goalie Nikolai Khabibulin's right arm.
The Coyotes regained a two-goal lead when Gartner redirected a Norm Maciver shot from the point for his 685th career goal, chasing Anaheim goalie Guy Hebert.
Kariya completed his first hat trick of the season at 11:20 but Ronning, after drawing a slashing penalty on Teemu Selanne and a misconduct on David Karpa, banked a shot off the left post at 19:06 for his 11th goal of the season.
Ronning's second score was the Coyotes' third power-play goal in five chances against Anaheim, the worst road penalty-killing unit in the league.
Tkachuk added an empty-net goal with 28.5 seconds remaining for his 18th goal in Phoenix's last 17 games.
Gartner and Janney scored 80 seconds apart to give Phoenix a 2-0 lead at 10:35 of the first period before Kariya trickled a shot between Khabibulin's pads to pull the Mighty Ducks within a goal.
Khabibulin, making his seventh consecutive start, made 31 saves for his fourth win in six games against the Anaheim. Hebert made 18 saves before giving way to Mikhail Shtalenkov, who stopped nine of 10 shots.
